Presentation about Water Shortage

Report of Mohammed Mattar

On May 28, 2013 we had a presentation class with Mr. Hedley.  Mohammed Mattar started his presentation at 12:50 pm and it was about Subway restaurants. He said that “Subway is an American franchise restaurant which specializes in selling submarines and sandwiches and salad”. What I knew from the presentation is that Subway is a healthy option when coming to assemble a sandwich, because they offer a variety of vegetables, different kinds of bread and healthy toppings. Mohammed Mattar talked about 10 Facts of Subway which were:

1.       40 years old American guy lost 245 pounds just from eating his meals from subway.

2.       The starting capital of the business was $1000.

3.       The owner of Subway is Fred Deluca and he was 17 years old only when he started his business.

4.       The old name of Subway was “Pete’s Subway”.

5.       Subway has 87 locations worldwide.

6.       Subway has 27,989 branches worldwide.

7.       Subway has more branches than McDonalds.

8.       Subway has 2,000,000 sandwich combinations around the world.

9.       Subway serves 2,800 sandwiches every 60 seconds around the world.

10.   Subway has the copy-right of the foot-long sandwich around the world.

After saying the facts the class asked Mohamed some questions about his presentation. One of the questions asked by one of the class mates was “what is your best sandwich?”. Mohammed replied that his best sandwich is “the wheat bread with the chicken breast and salad”

In my opinion I’ve really learnt new things about Subway that I didn’t know before.

Report of saif presentation

On Tuesday of May 7, 2013 Saif started his presentation at 12:35 and Mr. Hedley was there with the entire class. He started saying that everyday all of us face the stress, noise and having a bad day because of it. In his opinion, the best way to avoid and run away from the stress is going to the farm. Saif showed us some pictures of the plants he grows there such as water apples, madina mint and the delicious fresh bananas. Saif also has in his farm different kinds of birds such as ducks, peacocks and chickens. Saif has a lot of animals in his farm like the big collection of sheep and goats. The sheep kinds are the Najdy , Harthy , Naemy and Shami sheep. The Najdy and Harthy sheep are from KSA, while the Naemy and Shami Sheep are from Syria and they are rich in meat and fat; they taste good and have plenty of delicious milk which is rich in minerals. The kinds of goats are Omani and Arthy goats. Saif loves the Arthy goats because they are funny. Saif also raised cows whose father is a bull from Lebanon and the mother from Jersey. He also has camels which are very good; as he said they give you milk, meat and you can gain money from them from the camel races. The camel milk is very rich in minerals and it can cure diseases such as cancer. Saif showed us the lamas that he has in his farm; it was nice thing and I was amazed that he has these in his farm. At the end he showed us a funny slide that has an Arthy sheep saying “Any Questions?”

Reflection

The meeting was on March 19 2013 at 12:40 pm. The meeting was about solving the issue of car parking in the Higher Colleges of Technology, the Abu Dhabi Men’s College. The meeting was opened by Hamad, the chair of the group, by talking about the problem with his group and he talked about the 1st way to solve the issue is to build a multi-storey car park beside the F-block on the sand part. Mr. Hedley was asking and worried if that place belongs to the college or no. Then Mohammed talked about the 2nd way to solve the problem, by building a normal parking in the same place beside the F-block. And later Abdulla gave us a 3rd way to solve the issue which is to have a valet service for the students.

Then they all talked about the disadvantages about each way to solve the problem; the disadvantage of building a multistorey parking is that it will take time to build it and it is too expensive to build it; the disadvantage of building a normal parking is just that it will be far for the students; and the disadvantage of having a valet service is that it will be expensive for students to pay every day for the valet service and it will need a yearly agreement with a valet company.

At last the group agreed to build a normal car park near the F-block because it has the fewest disadvantages.

Report

In class meeting: agenda, minutes & recommendations

Problem: The parking problem at ADMC

Date of meeting: 19 March 2013

Time of meeting: 12:40pm

Venue: J12

Group members:

Chair: Hamad Al Mehairbi

Recording : Mubarak Al Mazrouei

Secretary: Mohammed Al Qubaisi

Participant: Abdullah Al Mehairbi

Agenda:

Parking problems at ADMC

Multi-storey parking at the F-block

Build a new parking lot at the F-block

Service of valet parking

The chairmen Hamad opened the meeting at 12:40pm

1. Build a multi-storey car park near the F-block.

Hamad said it is a very good idea to build multi-storey parking

Mohammed and Abdullah said it’s a very good idea to build the multi-storey parking but it will take a lot of time and it will be very expensive to build it. Hedley worried about the piece of land and wondered if the ADMC college does own the land or not. If not then it will be too expensive because the cost will be buying the piece of land and building multi-storey car park.

The disadvantages  of building multi-storey parking is that it will take time to build it ; it’s too far and it is too expensive.

2. Mohammed the secretary talked about the idea of building a new parking lot near the F-block.

We all agreed about this idea because it can take a lot of cars in it and there will be no parking problems here. Abdullah said it will cheaper to build a new parking lot than to build multi-storey parking and we all agreed with it. Hedley asked a good question and it was hard to answer; he said if we build a new parking lot will the students park there rather than park in the old parking lot. We said they will because it will be easier to park there.

The only disadvantage of building a new parking beside the F-block is that it is too far from the classes.

3. Abdulla gave us a nice idea that is to have a valet parking.

Hamad and Mohammed said that it is a nice idea but it will be expensive and we need to have a contract agreement with a valet parking company; also it will be very expensive because the company will have too many drivers because there are many students in the college plus it will cost students to pay money for the service.

The disadvantage of having valet parking is that it is expensive. It needs a yearly contract with the company and it will be expensive for students to pay every day for the valet service.

At last after a long arguments and negotiations we have agreed that the best solution is to build a new parking lot near the F-block .
